Porch Pride 2020

Watch the recorded streams from both days of the festival!

In the wake of a global pandemic, we found ourselves in the same position as many of the talented musicians with whom we work: facing the cancellation of an entire season of events. These include our San Francisco Pride float and marching armada, the annual Bluegrass Pride Celebration Concert (in San Francisco), our annual Portland Bluegrass Pride celebration, and the inaugural Nashville Bluegrass Pride celebration. These celebrations help us to grow our connections and create a deeper community with supporters like you, who live our mission every day. In order to save those connections and inspire new ones, we decided to bring the spirit of Bluegrass Pride right to your front porch.

Porch Pride: A Bluegrass Pride Queer-antine Festival is a digital festival featuring more than 10 hours of live music over the course of Pride weekend, June 27-28, 2020. Our purpose is to highlight and showcase LGBT+ roots musicians, while also generating financial support for them as they navigate the new non-existent performance landscape, all while providing a gathering space for our community during these isolating times. Our goal is to pay each of our artists at least $200 for their performances in our festival. Bluegrass Pride has already diverted all funds allocated for our annual parade and celebration concert in SF towards this event in pursuit of our goal. But we can't do it alone.

We need your help to reach our goal!

UPDATE #5 (6/29, 12:05pm):  WOW!! Together, we have raised over $22,000 in support of diversity and inclusion in American traditional music. We're going to be able to pay each of the talented musicians on the Porch Pride lineup more than $650 for their performances this weekend. But we're not done yet! All donations made before July 1 will be going to our musicians, so get those last few donations in NOW.

UPDATE #4 (6/28, 3:27pm): We just passed $18,000 in donations, which means we'll be paying all of our artists more that $500 for their performances! 🎉 Let's keep it going and get each of them $650+ for Porch Pride.

UPDATE #3 (6/27, 7:23pm): We just passed $15,000, which means we're now able to pay all of the artists performing this weekend over $400! In light of today's amazing generosity, we've updated our campaign goal and are now aiming to pay each of our artists $650, meaning we need to raise another $6,200. Help us show these artists some love during tough times — donate today!

UPDATE #2 (6/27, 4:12pm): We just passed $12,000 dollars in donations, which means we're now able to pay each of these incredibly talented musicians over $300 for their time and music! Thank you all for your generosity, now let's get to $400 each!

UPDATE (6/27, 1:37pm): We just hit our goal!! And so early in the festival! Every artist on the Porch Pride lineup will be paid a minimum of $200 for their time — let’s keep this going! 100% of all donations going forward go directly to the artists on our lineup this weekend. Give generously!

What the world needs now is a weekend of great music and even better community. We didn't want anyone to miss out on that experience because of their own financial circumstances, so we're making the whole weekend festival completely free to attend. That means we're counting on donations from fans, friends, and family like you to help us support musicians in need.

We’re suggesting a $10 donation, but feel free to donate more if you’re enjoying the show! All proceeds — including donations made during the festival and through the end of Pride month  will be shared evenly between the artists playing the festival and Bluegrass Pride, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. These funds will go towards supporting our ongoing, year-round operations, allowing us to continue hosting paid performance opportunities for artists during these uncertain times, while also investing in long-term resources that will benefit both musicians and fans beyond the pandemic (such as the forthcoming Safe Venue Directory), helping to create a safer, more inclusive bluegrass community for all.

Bluegrass Pride is a Section 501(c)(3) charitable organization, EIN 83-3224672. All donations are deemed tax-deductible absent any limitations on deductibility applicable to a particular taxpayer.
