Grace van't Hof

3 Finger Banjo

Michigan native Grace van’t Hof (they/them) has developed and taken a unique shade of banjo and ukulele playing across North America and overseas with such groups as Della Mae, Bill and the Belles, and Chris Jones & the Night Drivers. A devoted fan and scholar of early 20th century music, Grace loves to investigate the influence of queerness, the roles of marginalized identities, and the effects of culture on popular music at the dawn of the recording era. Grace is a member of the American Banjo Fraternity, and the Banjo Gathering. In addition to being an accomplished banjo performer, session musician, and songwriter, Grace also plays and teaches different styles of ukuleles professionally and has developed a hybrid instrument, Myrtle, which they have played on the hallowed stage of the Grand Ol’ Opry. Grace is a published illustrator, and is the four-time International Bluegrass Music Association’s Graphic Designer of the Year. They make their home in Detroit, MI.
